Building a Community Legacy Together Community Presentation

  • Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The 4-H Teens of Schenectady County will be presenting findings from their interviews with community elders on December 12, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Schaffer Heights Dayhaven Community Room.  Refreshments will be served.

Building a Community Legacy Together Community (BCLT) provides a structured opportunity for middle school and high school-aged youth to interview elders living in the community and residential living settings about elder wisdom and advice for living.  It allows youth to learn about older people and aging and is expected to create respect for the wisdom of age and to combat ageism.  In addition, it offers youth the opportunity to develop skill sets that will be useful to them in the future (for example, interviewing and research skills).  For elders, helping the youth by agreeing to be interviewed can feel good and increase a sense of usefulness.  The interview may also uphold and possibly improve an elders' positive attitude toward youth.
